The newest homologated R5 specification rally car on the market, the Proton Iriz R5, took its third gravel rally win in a row last weekend, as Ollie Mellors stormed to victory at the Malton Forest Rally (3rd November).

Mellors and co-driver Ian Windress, were fastest on each of the events six stages in the Yorkshire forests to take the Thornbridge Brewery backed Proton to a hattrick of wins in the latter half of the season, adding to the Woodpecker Stages and Trackrod Forest Rally triumphs. Read More »

Ollie Mellors and Ian Windress secured a maiden national rally win for the Proton Iriz R5 since being Homologated by the FIA, taking victory by 20 seconds at last weekend’s Eventsigns Woodpecker Stages Rally, a round of the Jordan Road Surfacing BTRDA Rally Series (31st August) in Ludlow, Shropshire.

Mellors was fastest on all but one of the event’s five stages in the Welsh Marches and Shropshire forests with the Radnor test often used by the FIA World Rally Championship qualifier Wales Rally GB. Ollie Mellors and Theo Bengry will each pilot a Proton Iriz R5 at this weekend’s Eventsigns Woodpecker Stages Rally, round six of the Jordan Road Surfacing BTRDA Rally Series (31st August).

Mellors and co-driver Ian Windress will start the Ludlow based event as number two seed and will be aiming to repeat the 2018 Cambrian Rally and Goodwood Forest Stage win for the Jaipur Iriz R5 in July. Bengry, with Les Forsbrook alongside, will be aiming for more experience of the potent four-wheel-drive machine after making the switch from historic rallying to the Leominster Car Auctions backed Proton earlier this season. Charlie Payne from Ripon driving a Ford Focus WRC justified his number one seeding by winning the event for the fourth year on the trot. He didn’t dominate the event like he did last year and was three seconds behind eventual runners up Peter Stephenson from Thirsk in his Able sponsored Focus WRC at the halfway mark. This was partly due to a slight off on one stage, put down to his advancing years by co driver Craig Thorley and also to a throttle which stuck wide open on the Gale Rigg stage. Bucking the national trend of reduced entries, 69 cars will line up at Dalby Forest on Sunday 4th November for the 10th running of the Malton Forest Rally. This is nine more than last year. Sponsored by MEM PROTON, who prepare Proton S2000 rally cars for the Asia Pacific and IRC championships, this is the 14th year that proprietor Chris Mellors, a former British rally champion, has supported Malton Motor Club events. Regulations are now available for the MEM Malton Forest Rally on the motor club’s website http://www.maltonforestrally.co.uk

The event will take place on Sunday, 4th November and will be based at  Dalby Forest Visitor Centre, near Pickering, North Yorkshire.  Three forest stages, each used twice, will be held in the forests of Langdale, Gale Rigg and Cropton to make up a total stage mileage of  40 miles. Read More »

Malton Motor Club are pleased to announce the continued support for their annual forest rally from MEM World Rally Team. This will be the 15th year that proprietor Chris Mellors has supported the club with various events. MEM prepare the works PROTON S2000 rally cars for the IRC and Asia Pacific Championships.

The event will take place on the traditional date of Sunday, 4th November and will be based at a new start location at Dalby Forest Visitor Centre near Pickering, North Yorkshire. Six long forest stages will be held in Langdale, Gale Rigg and Cropton forests with central servicing at Adderstone Fields which is close to the start location in Dalby Forest. Read More »
