Mini Britannia will give regular competitors some late-summer fun and new competitors the chance to sample this type of event. To encourage newcomers, a completely new route will be used, with the start at a landmark venue in London and the finish at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea to tie in with the spectacular new ‘Grand Rendevous’ event. A two-day format, a May date and a base in Warwickshire are among the key early details of the 2013 edition of Tour Britannia. The ninth running of Britain’s only classic race and rally tour will be held on Friday/Saturday 10/11 May.

The initial plan is to have documentation during the late afternoon of Thursday 9 May at the event’s Warwickshire HQ hotel so that Friday and Saturday can be two days of full-on competitive action. Read More »

The first running of Mini Britannia was based out of Silverstone and with the event almost running past the front door, it would have been rude not to attend. The event was split into Regularity and Competition, (which itself had a sub-category for Targa – modern cars). The Competition section gets all the headlines and it was Phil Hindley & Chris Williams (Porsche 911) who took victory by just over half a minute. Behind them only 0.4 seconds separated 2nd and 3rd places as Mark Freeman & Andre Genillard (AC Cobra) edged out Philip Walker & Howard Redhouse (Jaguar E-Type). Rally legend Paddy Hopkirk at the wheel of one of the latest versions of the Mini will lead the field away on Mini Britannia (Saturday 13 October) as the rallying heritage of the model comes together with the current World Rally Championship programme.

Hopkirk, winner of the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally in a Mini Cooper S, will run as course opening car on the classic race and rally tour, which starts from a base at Silverstone. Hopkirk, a life member of the BRDC, will be at the wheel of a current Mini Countryman Cooper S recce car as used on this year’s World Rally Championship. Read More »

Tour Britannia’s one-day classic race and rally tour, Mini Britannia, was announced today at Silverstone (Wednesday 27 June). Based at Silverstone, Mini Britannia will run on Saturday 13 October 2012 and will give regular competitors some late-season fun and new competitors the chance to sample this type of event.

Like its big brother, Mini Britannia will include Competition and Regularity events and will run on asphalt roads. A race at Silverstone and a series of special stages in the Silverstone area will make up a full day of competition, both starting and finishing at Silverstone. Read More »
