5 Nations BRX Supercars join World RX for Lydden Hill rallycross feast

The headline Supercar category in the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy will join the UK’s round of FIA World Rallycross Championship on July 22-23 next year for a points-scoring round.

The pinnacle of the sport last raced at the Kent venue in 2017, but having switched to a brand-new era of all-electric cars at the top level, will now return to the circuit that hosted the first-ever rallycross event on February 4 1967, joining renowned venues such as Holjes in Sweden, Hell in Norway and Cape Town in South Africa on the 10-round calendar, as announced by the FIA World Motor Sport Council today [December 7].

Brown bows out as British Rallycross Championship MINI champion

Rochdale racer Steve Brown has been named as the 2021 Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy BMW MINI champion after the latest round [6-7 November] at Lydden Hill Race Circuit in Kent.

Brown grabbed hold of the lead of the championship earlier this year at Pembrey in Wales and after a solid performance throughout the latter half of the season, was able to hold onto the top spot as the championship headed to the penultimate round in the South East.

Knockhill takes its toll – but Brown’s still leads British Rallycross category

Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy contender Steve Brown endured a tough weekend in Scotland, managing only one podium spot in the BMW MINI double header at Knockhill Race Circuit [24-25 September].

Brown was fresh from a scintillating performance at Pembrey last month when he took his maiden British Rallycross Championship wins on both rounds of the weekend, which subsequently vaulted him to the top of the championship standings. But the tricky Knockhill circuit proved a little tougher to master and Brown could only scoop third place on the second day of competition.

Brown enjoyed a confidence-boosting weekend behind the wheel of his Fuchs Lubricants backed MINI to win both Sunday and Monday’s Final at the double-header weekend, which puts the Rochdale driver at the top of the Championship standings as the season approaches the halfway point.
