More sun and soaring temperatures greeted the crews as they assembled on Saturday morning for the Nicky Grist Stages Rally. Starting from the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells, the rally used classic stages such as Halfway, Route 60 and Crychan forming part of a revamped route for 2018. The 2018 Rally North Wales was the first event to run to the new Rally2 format and it proved a success. With the BHRC and 2WD running through the stages first it proved to be a battle between the Ford Escort MkII’s. On the first stage though Ieuan Rowlands & Emyr Hall were fastest in the Avenger but retirement on stage 2 saw the normal Escort MkII order restored with Nick Elliott taking over the lead, despite Ryan Barrett going fastest through stage 2. Elliott, co-driven by Dave Price, was then fastest on stage 3 to take a 13 second lead in to service. Brackley rally driver Callum Black stormed to his first ever overall rally victory at last weekend’s Winner Garage Skoda Wyedean Stages Rally (11th November) and in the process, became the 2017 Pirelli MSA Welsh Rally Champion.

After taking three maximum points scores in the last three rounds, Black would head to the event with one eye on the title after securing a finish on the biggest rally in the UK just a few weeks previously, the FIA World Rally Championship qualifier, Dayinsure Wales Rally. Driving his usual 586 Group backed Ford Fiesta R5, Black; along with co-driver Elliott Edmondson took five stage wins to ensure their year ended in the best possible way. Read More »

Brackley rally driver Callum Black has placed a last minute entry to next weekend’s Winner Garage Skoda Wyedean Stages Rally, in a bid to secure the 2017 MSA Welsh Rally Championship at the final round.

Fresh from his debut in the FIA World Rally Championship at the Dayinsure Wales Rally GB last weekend where he secured a top 30 position, Black and co-driver Elliott Edmondson will head to the Forest of Dean in their 586 Group Ford Fiesta R5 to try and clinch the title as the series draws to a close. faulkner-red-kitre17After nearly 4 years since last driving the car, Solihull-based Scott Faulkner and his Welsh co driver Dominic Adams took their Mitsubishi Evo 9 to Llandovery, Camarthenshire last weekend to compete on the Red Kite Stages Rally.

Following on from a very busy Christmas rebuild for the car, 6 slippery fog-covered stages faced nearly 70 crews who had made the trip to compete on the event – which kicked off early on Sunday morning. Read More »
