Seven MINI ALL4 Racing complete the most gruelling cross-country rally within top fifteen. Mikko Hirvonen and Harry Hunt excel in their first experience of the Dakar Rally with Hirvonen clinching the Best Rookie title in the car category.

Once again the MINI brand celebrates success at the Dakar Rally with Al-Attiyah (QAT) and co-pilot Mathieu Baumel (FRA) completing the 38th edition of the Dakar Rally as best placed all-wheel drive car. The provisional general ranking results show Stéphane Peterhansel as the quickest man overall in category and congratulations are extended to Peugeot. Day 12 proved to be a “a hard day in the office” for many, many competitors including the MINI ALL4 Racing family.

Nasser Al-Attiyah (QAT) moved to second place overall behind leader Peterhansel despite a difficult day. This brilliant result came about after a marvellous recovery from an incident early in the Special Stage. Savage desert heat of 50-degrees causes problems for bike and car competitors. Dakar organisers compelled to stop Stage 9 at 179km for safety reasons.

Once again the weather conditions determined the result of a Dakar special stage. In the opening week, very early on, rain put paid to many a competitor’s Dakar challenge. But today’s weather in the Belen-Belen stage proved to be the opposite extreme in the desert arena. With competitors in the bike classes having problems with the severe desert floor heat, Dakar officials made the decision to stop the race at CP2 for safety reasons.

The result for Stage 9 was determined by the best time at CP2. For early flyers Erik van Loon (NLD) and Wouter Rosegaar (NLD) in the Van Loon Racing (#306) MINI ALL4 Racing, this gave them their best result so far this Dakar with a stage finish of second. All four MINI ALL4 Racing of AXION X-raid Team finish Stage 6 in the top ten positions. Nine MINI ALL4 Racing are in the overall top 20, six of which currently fill positions 11-16.

At the end of Stage 6, the accomplished pairing crossed the finish point in their AXION X-raid Team MINI ALL4 Racing (#300) in fourth place.
