Polestar Cyan Racing has maintained a double World Championship lead following a chaotic WTCC weekend on the extremely challenging Macau street circuit, with Thed Björk leading the drivers’ championship by 6,5 points ahead of the season finale in Qatar.

Despite a major disadvantage compared to his competitors of never having raced in Macau, Thed Björk did not put a wheel wrong all weekend and claimed two top five finishes to keep his lead over main title rival and Honda driver Norbert Michelisz who has raced at Macau five times before.

”This race weekend was the most difficult of my life in terms of making no mistakes and keeping the pace needed strategically. While I always race for victories, I must say that I am pleased with the outcome and above all to accomplish our goal of leading the championship ahead of the season finale. Polestar Cyan Racing has claimed a double World Championship lead after two podium finishes in the WTCC Race of Japan, with Thed Björk extending his lead to 16,5 points over main title rival and Honda driver Norbert Michelisz.

Just as in the previous race in China, rain was pouring down in both races where Thed Björk fought hard with his rivals to claim two solid top five finishes, bringing vital points to the title fight. Thed Björk secured a double podium in the FIA WTCC Race of Portugal on the challenging street circuit Vila Real, enabling Polestar Cyan Racing to maintain the World Championship lead for manufacturers.

The four-time STCC champion has moved up to second in the drivers’ championship, just four points from the top spot. Björk finished third in the opening race and challenged race leader Norbert Michelisz in the main race for the victory, despite carrying 30 kilos more, to finish second. Read More »
