The 21st North West Stages, sponsored by Legend Fires, was set to be a memorable rally being only the 2nd closed rally in England and the first in the North. Simon Bowen & Richard Robinson (Impreza WRC) set the early pace going fastest on the first 3 stages before dropping over a minute on the final stage of the opening loop. Peter Taylor & Andrew Roughead (Fiesta WRC) were fastest through that stage to take the lead by 9 seconds in to first service. Motorsport North West can now confirm that they plan to run the Legend Fires North West Stages on Saturday 23rd March 2019, with a move to a new base in the Historic Lancashire market town of Garstang.

Following the change in the Road Traffic Act Legislation in 2017 the organisers took a year’s sabbatical to concentrate on the vast amount of work needed to pursue the possibility of a number of Closed Road Special Stages for the 2019 event. They are now pleased to announce that a an MSA permit has been issued which has allowed an application for a Motor Race Order to be submitted to the Local highways authority, Lancashire County Council. Stone_NWStagesJust as it looked as if he was on for a repeat of his runner-up placing on the event of two years ago, Blackburn driver John Stone saw his hopes dashed when he was forced to retire from this weekend’s Legend Fires North West Stages Rally with just four stages remaining.

Along with Welsh co-driver Carl Williamson, the event sponsor was back in action in the Legend Fires Skoda Fabia WRC following an extensive winter rebuild and despite the tricky conditions on Friday night, the pair took it steady to reach the overnight halt in Blackpool in a safe fifth position after setting second fastest time behind rally leader and Dom Buckley Motorsport team-mate Paul Bird on SS2.
