Chesterfield’s Rhys Yates completed his first overseas World Rally Championship event last week, with a superb performance at the Rally RACC, Rally Spain. Yates, along with co-driver Alex Lee, overcame steering failure to finish the notorious three-day event 34th overall and first Englishman home at the Costa Daurada based event (5-8 October). With Kris Meeke/Paul Nagle’s win and the sixth place secured by Stéphane Lefebvre/Gabin Moreau, the Citroën Total Abu Dhabi WRT enjoyed its best weekend since the start of the year. On the season’s only mixed-surface rally, the team led by Yves Matton was able to demonstrate the potential of the C3 WRC on all surfaces and prove the value of all the hard work undertaken in recent months.

Rally of Spain lived up to its reputation for being unpredictable until the end. Citroën’s Kris Meeke took a stunning victory while M-Sport’s championship leader Sébastien Ogier extended his advantage at the top of the standings with a second place. Hyundai Sep14– Hyundai Shell World Rally Team will field three Hyundai i20 WRCs in Rallye de France Alsace and Rally de España, rounds 11 and 12 of this year’s FIA World Rally Championship (WRC)
