British Rally driver Rhys Yates will be looking for a “realistic” result at the Renties Ypres Rally (22/23 June) in Belgium, despite making history with an overall victory at Rally Van Wervik last week.

The 24-year-old driver from Chesterfield elected to warm-up for the forthcoming Prestone MSA British Rally Championship (BRC) qualifier with an outing in Wervik and was rewarded with a start-to-finish win, the first British driver to take the top spot on the event in its 42-year history. Steve Brown secured another solid finish for his newly developed Nissan Micra Kit Car last weekend, taking eighth in class 3F and valuable championship points at Rally van Wervik (8/9th June) in Belgium.

Rhys Yates proved he is one of the most talented rally drivers in Europe by leading last weekend’s Rally Van Wervik (8/9 June) from start to finish, to become the first British driver to win the Belgian event in its 42-year history.

The Chesterfield ace fired his Brettex Skoda Fabia R5 into the lead of the rally on the opening stage and was never headed to win four of the event’s 12 stages, taking his biggest rally victory to date and in the process, maximum points in the Protyre MSA Asphalt Rally Championship. Read More »

Rhys Yates has become the first British driver to win the Rally van Wervik, after he and co-driver Elliott Edmondson clinched outright victory on Round 3 of the Protyre MSA Asphalt Rally Championship in their Brettex-backed ŠKODA Fabia R5. Fresh from an impressive result in France, Chesterfield rally driver Rhys Yates will head to Belgium this weekend, to contest Rally van Wervik (8/9 June) as he prepares to resume his Prestone MSA British Rally Championship campaign later this month.

Yates and co-driver Elliott Edmondson have enjoyed the best possible start to their season, taking third Under 28 in the FIA European Rally Championship at the Azores Rally in March. This was then surpassed with a storming run on the opening round of the British Rally Championship, taking second overall and a career-best result for Yates in the process. Read More »

The striking Nissan Micra Kit Car of Steve Brown will be heading across the English Channel this week, as the Rochdale driver aims to get valuable points on the board in the Flanders International Rally Challenge (FIRC) at Rally van Wervik (8/9th June).

Brown endured a testing start to his 2018 campaign after the popular Nissan was side-lined just days before the start of Rallye Salamandre earlier in the year, forcing him to revert to a Historic specification Mini Cooper for the event. Entries have opened today for the 2018 Protyre MSA Asphalt Rally Championship – with Championship Regulations published on-line at asphaltrallying.com

Organised by the BTRDA, the Championship will consist of six rounds, with the best five scores to count.

The 2018 Protyre MSA Asphalt Rally Championship is open to all fully paid-up members of the BTRDA (entry into the Championship includes full membership of the BTRDA) and who are registered in the Championship, having a National A or higher grade competition licence issued by the MSA, or by Motorsport Ireland.
