Rochdale rally driver Steve Brown took third in the two-wheel-drive category of the Belgium based Flanders International Rally Challenge (FIRC) last weekend, a feat made much more impressive by the fact it was achieved with his old, borrowed car.

With his usual Nissan Micra Kit Car out of action for opening few rounds of the season, Brown had secured a deal to contest the overseas championship in a loaned Honda Civic which would give him the opportunity to challenge for the class 3F and two-wheel-drive honours. Read More »

Simon and Alister Crook topped the 2017 Fuchs Lubricants R.A.C. Historic Asphalt Rally Championship contenders on round two on Sunday (23 April), Rallye Salamandre in Belgium.

After a tremendous day’s sport in spring sunshine, the top three R.A.C. crews were covered by just over a minute and a half after a first class event on closed public roads around the town of Beaumont in the south of Belgium. A superb trip to Belgium for the Rallye Salamandre saw another fine display from Florian Gonon & Michel Horgnies (Escort MkI). Gonon took victory at the death by 6 seconds from Paul Lietaer & Marc Noppe (Escort MkII) after Lietaer had been leading for most of the event. Christophe Jacob & Isabelle Regnier (Escort MkII) had been right up their in the first loop of stages but slipped back as the event progressed but still took a solid podium finish. Top British Historic crew were Darren Moon & John Connor (Escort MkII) in 5th place with Simon & Alister Crook (Escort MkII) the highest finishing RAC championship crew. Read More »

The 2017 Fuchs Lubricants R.A.C. Historic Asphalt Rally Championship continues with round two on Sunday (23 April), Rallye Salamandre in Belgium.

In an event with a superb capacity entry, around a dozen championship contenders will tackle this hugely popular event on closed public roads around the town of Beaumont in the south of Belgium. Asphalt rally driver Steve Brown had a shorter than usual event last weekend, after his Honda Civic was side-lined by transmission gremlins at the SMC Stages in Anglesey.

The Rochdale driver had swapped his usual Nissan Micra Kit Car for a loaned Honda and would contest the North Wales based event to acquire seat time in the new machine before crossing the channel to begin his assault on the Belgium based Flanders International Rally Challenge (FIRC).

But drama struck on the opening test of the day when the Honda developed a transmission issue and despite attempts to cure the problem during the morning, Brown was forced out of the race circuit based event. Read More »

The championship is for two-wheel drive historic cars from up to the end of 1990, and is organised by the Roger Albert Clark Rally Motor Club alongside the Mintex MSA British Historic Rally Championship. Read More »

RAC16 Salamandre BTV coverage from round two of the Fuchs Lubricants R.A.C. Historic Asphalt Rally Championship, Rally Salamandre, will be broadcast on Wednesday 27 April, just three days after the Belgian rally.
