Blustery winds and the odd squally shower hit the rally stage on this years Race Retro. With better spectator viewing the weather did not put off the spectators, for the 1st run at least, as well over 100 different cars tackled the main feature stage and the rally rides stage. With everything from contemporary R5’s through to Group A, Kit cars, Group B, Group 4, Land Crabs and many more, there was a huge variety of cars on display. Didier Auriol was the main name from the past who put in several runs in the Sierra Cosworth, whilst 2019 ERC Champion Chris Ingram was present to have a play in a few cars too. Read More »

Unseasonably warm weather bathed the Race Retro Live Stage, or should that be Stages, as 2019 saw an innovation with a two stage format. The main stage returned to the original location from the first few years of the show with a rally rides stage running next to it for paying customers. The other change was the addition of two gravel sections which ensured the cars were getting plenty of sideways. Meirion Evans brought his Hyundai i20 R5 fresh from two consecutive weekends rallying in the Irish and British Championships right down to Rauno Aaltonen running in a Mini Cooper S. Read More »

After the show on Saturday we are all about the live action rally stage on the Saturday. It may have been cold but it was dry and sunny which made the action all the more enjoyable. Dave Wright impressed in his ex Carlos Sainz Ford Focus WRC as did Roger Priestnall in his diminutive Proton Satria. The Cambrian Rally winning Proton Iriz R5 of Ollie Mellors was out too, to really reflect rallying through the ages and bringing it bang up to date. With three distinct fields it really does give a flavour of rallying history and is cracking entertainment to boot. Read More »

raceretro13 (293)The 10th International Historic Motorsport Show, aka Race Retro, was once again held at the NAC Stoneleigh. We did our usual mix of the show on the Friday, including the auction and the subject of our adoration the Valvoline Lola T70 MkIIIB, before catching the live action over the weekend. The show this year celebrated Lotus and Renault Alpine, who were both well represented on the feature stands in halls 1 & 2. On the rally stage we had a new stage layout, more cars on stage at one time and a greater number and diversity of rally cars then ever before. Read More »

Another year has flown by since the last Race Retro and here we were back again at our local show. This time around we took in the first and last days of the show with the Sunday being especially foul, still we enjoyed the action and had a great time always. It seems amazing to think that this is the 8th year of the show and we’ve been to every single one. With the show going from strength to strength, coupled with the growing interest in historic motorsport, we can only see this show growing year on year. Read More »

Our annual visit to Stoneleigh saw us take in the 7th International Historic motorsport show. This year the show was celebrating the 100th anniversary of Alfa Romeo, 60 years of racing for Norton and the 30th anniversary of the Audi Quattro. Once again the show bustled with all kinds of Historic cars through Speed Street and the rest of the show, with a very distinct Italian flavour. As for the rally stage it had changed location and now provided excellent all round views for the spectators and a new feature, a jump for the more adventurous crews. Read More »
