mclaren-bathurst17aThe McLaren 650S GT3 will return to Mount Panorama circuit in Australia next month with four customer team-run entries confirmed for the 2017 Bathurst 12 Hour. The race will also mark the competitive debut outing of Ben Barnicoat who joins the McLaren GT Driver Academy for 2017.

20-year-old Ben Barnicoat joins the McLaren GT Driver Academy after impressing in single-seater racing over the past few seasons. Barnicoat is supported by the prestigious Racing Steps Foundation – a private non-profit organisation focused on developing the UK’s greatest young talent in motorsport – and was a part of the McLaren Formula 1 Young Driver Programme from 2010. The latest results saw Factory Driver Côme Ledogar secure race victory and a further podium in Monza, Italy with customer team Garage 59 during the penultimate round of the International GT Open championship. Fellow Factory Driver Rob Bell was also confirmed as runner-up in the Blancpain GT Series Driver Championship after the final round of the fiercely-contested Endurance and Sprint combined calendar. mclaren-september16aFactory Drivers Rob Bell, Côme Ledogar and Shane van Gisbergen secured the prestigious Blancpain Endurance Cup Drivers Championship and customer team Garage 59 won the Blancpain GT Endurance Cup Teams Championship at the Nürburgring in one of the most successful weekends for McLaren in GT3 racing.

In the final three-hour race of the Blancpain season, the #58 650S GT3, driven by Bell, Ledogar and Brit Duncan Tappy – standing in for season-regular van Gisbergen – finished P30. However, with two wins from the season’s five races against a world-class GT3 field which was constantly over 60 cars strong, the team and drivers were still able to take both titles by a single point. Seven examples of the McLaren 650S GT3 were in action over the weekend, taking part in the Total 24 Hours of Spa and the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course round of the Pirelli World Challenge.  As a result of the challenging weekend, McLaren GT associated drivers and customer teams now lead the points tallies in seven of the standings associated with the two championships, including McLaren leading the Pirelli World Challenge Manufacturer Championship.

The McLaren 650S GT3 secured further silverware this weekend as McLaren GT Factory Drivers Rob Bell and Alvaro Parente enjoyed a strong weekend at the Nürburgring round of the Blancpain Sprint Series. The duo claimed pole position, a podium finish and the Main Race victory – the first for the McLaren 650S GT3 in the 2016 Sprint Cup. This result extends Bell’s lead at the top of the Blancpain GT Drivers Championship to 44 points.

Victory for the McLaren 650S GT3 at the Paul Ricard 1000km sees McLaren GT Factory Driver Rob Bell lead the overall Blancpain GT Drivers Championship by 20 points. The race was won in dramatic fashion with Bell and fellow Factory Drivers Shane Van Gisbergen and Côme Ledogar taking the chequered flag after six hours with a 3.7s winning margin.

The #58 650S GT3 of customer team Garage 59 finished P6 in the second round of the Blancpain Endurance Cup at Silverstone to maintain Factory Driver Rob Bell’s Blancpain GT Series title hopes with six rounds remaining. There was further success for the 650S GT3 in Italy as customer team FFF Racing Team by ACM finished P2 in the inaugural round of the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup at Imola.

On another action-packed weekend for McLaren GT customer teams around the world, Factory Driver Rob Bell took the overall lead in the Blancpain GT Series Drivers Championship after finishing P4 in the Sprint Cup Main Race at Brands Hatch. At the wheel of the #58 McLaren 650S GT3 for customer team Garage 59, and paired with fellow McLaren GT Factory Driver Alvaro Parente, Bell continued his impressive start to the 2016 Blancpain GT Series season which has seen him take a win and finish in the top ten in the other three races so far. The 650S GT3 also had a successful weekend racing at Barbagallo Raceway, Western Australia in the CAMS Australian GT Championship with a double podium result. In total, McLaren 650S GT3s scored six top-five finishes across the two series.
