Reigning British Rally Champion Matt Edwards took a sensational victory on the Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally to kick-start his title defence with new co-driver Patrick Walsh.

Former champion David Bogie and his navigator John Rowan brought their Skoda Fabia R5 home in second place, while Marty McCormack drove his similar machine to a fine third overall with Barney Mitchell reading the notes.

Tom Cave returned after a year’s absence and pushed the previous champions to the limit in the fight for a podium position. Two punctures on the final stage dropped Cave and co-driver Dale Bowen down the order and with no more spares in the car they were forced to retire. Read More »

The 2013 MSA British Rally Championship Awards Ceremony, affectionately known as The BRC Bash, scored another resounding success in Manchester at the weekend, honouring winners from the BRC and its support series the NGK Spark Plugs BRC Challenge.

The black tie event was hosted once again by John Horton, familiar to followers of the BRC as the host at the start and finish ceremonies of most of the series’ rallies. He shared the microphone with Championship Manager Mark Taylor, who took the opportunity to thank sponsors, events, marshals and of course competitors for making the 2013 season so successful. Russ Thompson and Andy Murphy are the 2013 NGK Spark Plugs BRC Challenge champions, after a top class drive in the forests around Poole, secured the title they have led all season.

A second place finish was enough for the pair to be crowned, as their title rivals were unable to match their pace on the season finale Rallye Sunseeker Challenge.

Winning the event, Irish crew Dean Raftery and Aileen Kelly delivered another eye catching drive on their way to the top step of the podium. Read More »

Russ Thompson and Andy Murphy delivered another high quality performance on gravel to take their third NGK Spark Plugs BRC Challenge win of the season. The Trackrod Challenge Rally definitely delivered on its pre-rally promise to play a pivotal role in deciding the outcome of this year’s titles.

Delivering fastest stage times on all but one of the competitive stages, the pair won the rally with a 52 second lead and head to the end of season championship decider, placed at the top of the standings ten points ahead of their nearest rivals once dropped scores are applied.

Strong results from the crews immediately behind them in the championship standings however, means that the title will have a four way scrap to decide its outcome when the field descends on Rallye Sunseeker in three weeks’ time. Read More »

Russ Thompson and Andy Murphy recorded their second maximum points NGK Spark Plugs BRC Challenge victory of the season, as they dominated a compelling RSAC Scottish Rally Challenge Rally, recording victory by 58 seconds.

The championship leaders stamped their authority on the event from the very first stage and progressively built their lead across the morning, to fully capitalise as other crews faltered and earn a thoroughly deserved win, extending their points lead and enhancing their championship prospects. Russ Thompson and Andy Murphy opened their 2013 NGK Spark Plugs BRC Challenge campaign in fine style today (Saturday May 4th) by winning the Pirelli Richard Burns Foundation Challenge and taking home a maximum 30 point haul on a sunny but breezy spring afternoon in Carlisle.

Reigning champion Richard Sykes produced a storming recovery drive to secure second place, after a difficult start to the event, the final podium spot secured by 18 year old Cumbrian flyer Aaron McClure on his first event through the legendary Kielder stages. Read More »

Russ Thompson and Andy Murphy took a well deserved win on the final NGK Spark Plugs BRC Challenge event of the year, after another close fought battle on the gravel roads of Yorkshire. The Renault Clio duo has had an up and down season but finished it on top.

The Rally started in the darkness enshrined Dalby forest in what would prove to be a challenging opener to any event. The fast long gravel straights and tight corners need near perfect concentration from both driver and navigator in order to post a quick time. Read More »
