Welsh rally driver Sara Williams has underlined her first successful foray into the French Renault Clio R3T Trophy that saw her competing – literally – at a high level throughout France. Driving in rallies that took her and co-driver Mark Glennester into the Cols of Mont Blanc, Midi Pyrenees and the Mountains that form the backdrop to the Cote D’Azur were just a few of the challenges she faced in 2017. Those distinctions were added to at the NEC Exhibition Centre in Birmingham Autosport Show in Birmingham last weekend, as Sara collected the prestigious GoldStar Elite Award presented by the British Womens Racing Drivers Club – an award that she first won two years ago. Williams Autosport16aThe BWRDC 2016 Elite GoldStars Award was presented to V-Ex Sponsored rally driver Sara Williams by former Williams F1 test driver Susie Wolff. The award is designed to provide recognition and mentoring for talented female drivers, something Susie has benefitted from earlier in her career.

The award was made on Susie’s Dare 2 Be Different (D2BD) stand at the Autosport International show at the NEC on Thursday 14 January. The BWRDC GoldStars Award is an initiative conceived by the motorsport club to promote talented women in motorsport. Only two of the prestigious GoldStars Awards may be presented annually; one to a Club Member who aspires to a higher level and one to an Elite Member wishing to progress her motorsport career to a professional level. Sara Williams Gold StarNumber 1 British female rally driver Sara Williams has seen an eventful 2015 season recognised by her nomination for the British Women Racing Drivers Club Elite GoldStars Award 2016. The most prestigious award offered by the association, Sara joins a number of professional female racers who have been recognised by the award. The purpose of the award is to promote female talent in motor racing and aid professional drivers in achieving career progression. Sara Williams Qatar15a#1 British female rally driver Sara Williams has recently returned from Qatar after 5 days of intense desert driving training courtesy of Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) and the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission. Sara joined 17 fellow female drivers and co-drivers, who received expert training from Jutta Kleinschmidt (the first and only female winner of the Dakar Rally) and cross country rally winning co-driver Fabrizia Pons, with a final 6 being chosen to compete in the 2016 Sealine Rally. Sara Williams Oct15aWelsh rally driver Sara Williams has been nominated to join 17 fellow female drivers and co-drivers to participate in a special cross country rally project, run by Qatar Motor and Motorcycling Federation in conjunction with the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission. Sara is one of nine drivers selected from across the world for the special course, which offers one driver and co-driver the chance to take part in the 2016 Sealine Cross Country Rally. The result leaves Sara 2nd overall and 1st in class heading into the final event. Sara Williams Red Dragon15Sara Williams further cemented her status as an icon of British rallying as she won the 2015 Red Dragon Rally outright by 1 minute 21 seconds. Sara and her co-driver, Patrick Walsh, navigated 36 stage miles in less than ideal conditions, coming out on top after a faultless day of driving and teamwork. This success marks Sara’s third win overall in a rally event, after she famously became the first female driver to win a rally outright for 30 years in 2013.
