The Solway Car Club delivered another cracking rally for Junior drivers from all 3 UK Junior 1000 Rally Championships on Sunday 5th August. The usedcarparts Solway Coast Junior Rally – and this was the seventh running of the Junior only event – has become a bit of a tradition using the military roads within the Dundrennan base near Kirkcudbright. On Saturday afternoon 5th August, Junior 1000 drivers and teams from all over the UK started arriving at Dundrennan MOD Base, Kirkcudbright in glorious sunshine for the 2017 usedcarparts Solway Coast Junior Rally. overall123The fifth running of the usedcarparts Solway Coast Junior Rally presented  29  Junior 1000 crews from all over the UK with some challenging and hugely enjoyable rallying on 7th August 2016. This unique event, organised by Solway Car Club over the military ranges near Kirkcudbright, is a round of all 3 UK Junior 1000 Championships – the Kick Energy Junior 1000 Rally Championship; the Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge and the McGrady Insurance ANICC Junior 1000 Rally Challenge Ireland. Leading from the very first stage, Welshpool youngster Zak Hughes scored his first victory in the Kick Energy Junior 1000 Rally Championship last weekend as he piloted his Citroen C1 to a dominant win at the Solway Coast Junior Rally. Partnered by co-driver Chris Evans, Hughes was never headed as he settled into third position overall from the outset and took victory with a winning margin of over a minute from his closest rivals Matthew Davies/Claire Williams who took second in their Peugeot 107. Tom Delaney/Joe Cruttenden bagged third, just nine seconds adrift in their Suzuki Alto.

Based at the Kirkcudbright Army Barracks on the West coast of Scotland, the event would provide a challenging day of close competition for the talented 14-17 year old Junior crews. Read More »

The usedcarparts Solway Coast Junior Rally is one of the highlights in the season for all 3 UK Junior 1000 Championships. And the 2015 event on 9th August based on the military ranges near Kirkcudbright and organised by Solway Car Club delivered everything that was expected of it. This is the only time in the year when all 3 Championships get together and it is one of the most testing events. The roads are very different to anything else that the young drivers compete on and the weather usually plays a big part.

IMG_2239A group of 27 Junior 1000 rally crews gathered near Kircudbright on 10th August 2014  for a very historic motorsport event – the “usedcarparts Solway Coast Junior Rally”. This would  be the first time that competitors from all 3 UK national Junior 1000 Rally Championships would compete on the same event. 40 miles over the military range roads of the Kircudbright Training Area would present a real challenge for the young drivers aged 14 to 17 years and on the 10th August they also had the tail end of ex-hurricane Bertha to contend with. vassallooverallwinnerOver 10 tough rally tests in changing weather conditions, an English lad, 5 Irish lads and 14 Scottish lads battled for supremacy on the “usedcarparts” Solway Coast Junior Rally on 11th August. 4 crews came over from the McGrady  Irish Junior 1000 Rally Challenge Ireland and 16 others were regulars in the Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge. The Sunday  rally – based at Dundrennan, Kirkcudbright – will be a Junior only event and a round of both the Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge and the McGrady Insurance Junior Rally Challenge Ireland. Alexander Vassallo clinched the top spot in the inaugural 2012 Brick & Steel Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge on the usedcarparts.co.uk Solway Coast Junior Rally on 12th August. Driving his Citroen C1 rally car, and co-driven by Howard Paterson, he took another solid victory in the rally held on the military ranges near Kirkcudbright. This was his 5th win out of 5 starts in the 6 event Championship for 14 to 17 year old rally drivers. Read More »
