The 2016 John Easson Award winner Sam Bilham will return to active competition for the first time since March after securing a one-off drive in the Swift Group Ford Fiesta R2 at next month’s Nicky Grist Stages Rally (14th July).

The Bingley rally driver has only managed one outing this season after winning last year’s DMACK Fiesta ST Trophy which ran alongside the BTRDA Rally Series. Bilham will now compete on the fourth round of the series in a more powerful R2 specification machine, thanks to the support of the Swift Group, Greenlight Sports and Entertainment and the car’s owner Peter Smith. Swift Group backed Millers Oils Rising Star Matt Edwards returned from the Isle of Man with an 8th Overall finish and dominant class win on the weekends Pokerstars Rally, but most importantly achieved all objectives that had been set for the BRC Challenge contender.

The MG ZR had performed faultlessly for the duration of the 110 stage miles, and with new suspension components working well, Edwards was able to dial in his 586 Sport machine to suit the bumpy roads, aswell as gain valuable seat time ahead of next months BRC Challenge double header in Ireland; the 26 year old Llandudno driver accompanied as ever by Chesterfields Sam Collis. Swift Group backed Millers Oils Rising Star Matt Edwards, took a creditable class win and seventh overall on todays Gareth Hall Memorial Rally at Trawsfynydd Ranges, mastering poor conditions against good competition, whilst testing set-up and improved suspension components on his 586 Sport MG ZR.

This positive result comes a week after a successful test session and prior to a trip to the Isle of Man this weekend in an attempt to put aside the component troubles that have blighted his recent BRC Challenge outings, and increase Edwards chances of a successful Ulster Rally next month. 26yr Old Millers Oils Rising Star Matt Edwards will be taking the positives from a disappointing and premature end to his and Co Driver Sam Collis’ Jim Clark Challenge Rally last weekend, as the pair retired with a second track control arm failure whilst lying third overall, following an off-road excursion.

The Swift Group MG ZR 1400 pairing, who are also supported by who are also supported by Smart-Trailers.co.uk, Holton Homes, SJR (Atech Seats) Vulcan Fasteners, EWP, Egniol, Rallytech, Racing-lines.com, Speedline Corse, Dunlop Tyres, Icedrivesweden.com, and Mintex Questmead, were on the pace early on in the event, even setting a fastest stage time on the notoriously demanding Abbey St Bathans test in the dusk of Friday evening, despite getting used to a tarmac driving style, and driving to pace notes the duo had made from scratch for the first time on the pre event ‘recce’. 26yr Old Matt Edwards from Llandudno, with Chesterfields Sam Collis will begin their 2011 BRC Challenge campaign this weekend, and in doing so will debut their newly acquired 586 Sport MG ZR.
