As only her second event in the driver’s seat on a BRC round, the Jim Clark Rally is widely acclaimed as one of the toughest in the seven event calendar and Baker will need to acclimatise quickly to the Twingo’s handling if she is to reach the finish ramp in Kelso at the end of the tough two day event. Ben Mckay and co-driving father Jason drove to a perfect tactical finish on last weekend’s Rallye Sunseeker International, sealing the Twingo Renaultsport R1 Trophy UK and MSA British Junior Rally Championship, also scooping a Pirelli Star Driver nomination to boot.

But the accolades didn’t stop there, as the family team from near Oswestry also grabbed the BRC’s Class 9 and Ravenol Oils Newcomers Trophy at the close to a truly remarkable season.

Ahead of the Poole-based loose surface rally, the goal was to get their 1600cc Twingo to the finish at all costs, knowing how much was at stake in the event of a retirement. So the ten stages must have seemed like 100, as the team tip-toed around the Ringwood forest complex to the north of the event’s host town. Read More »

With a 24 point lead in the standings, and a maximum of 30 up for grabs on this weekend’s Rallye Sunseeker, the Twingo Renaultsport Trophy R1 UK and the MSA British Junior Rally Championship look set to be heading to Ellesmere based Ben McKay as the season culminates on England’s South Coast.

Piloting the victorious Twingo R1 on four of the five rallies this year, 21 year old McKay and his co-driving father Jason know a finish would be enough to beat rival Harry Threlfall to the two titles and the bounty of prizes on offer.

However, as has been shown across countless motorsport championships throughout history, driving for a finish can be harder than going flat out. Whilst Threlfall would never wish misfortune to befall his rival, the man from Somerset will be happy to pick up the pieces on his home event, should lady luck decide to desert McKay. Read More »

Leading MSA British Junior Rally Championship driver Ben McKay, the 21 year old Renault Twingo driver, took first place in the Junior category and the Twingo Renaultsport R1 Trophy on Rally Yorkshire and now joins fellow Renault Twingo driver Harry Threlfall as the fifth finalist in the 2013 BRC LIVE Media Trophy in association with Prodrive.

Ben and his media team have consistently supplied quality press releases after every round of this year’s MSA British Rally Championship and in addition, they have always been ready to provide their car and team to the championship for any promotional day, while doing their best to promote the championship.

It was therefore felt by judges that due to these efforts in directly supporting the championship, especially by a team with a relatively modest budget and resources, should be rewarded with the Rally Yorkshire nomination for the Media Trophy. Read More »

The Twingo Renaultsport R1 Trophy will go down to the final round after last weekend’s Rally Yorkshire saw Ben and father, Jason Mckay, victorious on this penultimate round of the MSA British Rally Championship.

The rally was held over two days, with a two stage teaser in the darkness of Friday night, followed by a further five stages on Saturday, with a fifteen mile sting near the rally’s tail.

Following some technical wrangling before the start, the Mckays set off using just their standard Twingo headlamps, unable to utilise the set they had brought. Harry Threlfall and Andy Bull were restricted to just two spotlights too, but the advantage was clear, stopping the clocks just short of a minute ahead of Mckay after two difficult Dalby stages.
