Hirvonen’s time leading up to this prestigious event (3-13 January 2016) will be spent getting acquainted with his MINI ALL4 Racing in racing conditions by competing in selected rounds of the 2015 FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup, starting with Spain’s Baja Aragón, 24-26 July 2015.

Mikko Hirvonen, 34, is an accomplished rally driver from Finland with four second-placed finishes (2008, 2009, 2011, and 2012) to his name in the fast-paced World Rally Championship. His list of early age accomplishments at rallying quickly earned him the right to be tagged as “Flying Finn”, an accolade used to describe the efforts of fellow Finns in various sporting arenas. The MINI brand has achieved further success at the Dakar Rally. After covering more than 9,000 kilometres spanning Argentina, Chile and Bolivia, MINI won the world’s toughest rally for the fourth time in a row. Nasser Al-Attiyah/Mathieu Baumel (QT/FR) crossed the finishing line in the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires (AR) as the overall winners, having won five of the 13 legs in their MINI ALL4 Racing.

“I promised last year when I was on the podium that I’d be back to win, and now I’m here,” said Al-Attiyah. “It was very hard to lead the race from the very beginning and to continue keeping this position on the long distance. Also because the race was really hard. I’m very happy about this great result and I want to thank and congratulate all mechanics and the team for the great job they have done during the two weeks. Less than two months ahead of the start of the 2015 Dakar Rally (3-17 January) X-raid, supported by MINI, has revealed its line-up for the 37th edition of the world’s most famous long-distance rally. A total of eight MINI ALL4 Racing with driver crews from ten countries will take on the ultimate motorsport adventure of the Dakar Rally. Defending Dakar champions Joan “Nani” Roma (ES) and co-driver Michel Périn (FR) will lead the Monster Energy Rally Raid Team while the experienced driver pairings Orlando Terranova/Bernardo “Ronnie” Graue (AR/AR) and Krzysztof Holowczyc/Xavier Panseri (PL/FR) complete the line-up. There will also be five customer driver pairings in MINI ALL4 Racing cars built by the German-based X-raid GmbH.
