A wet and wild Wales Rally GB saw Ott Tänak & Martin Järveoja (Yaris WRC) consolidate their championship lead with a fine victory on the muddy tracks. Tänak set 7 fastest stage times but with Thierry Neuville & Nicolas Gilsoul (i20 Coupe WRC) consistently on the pace the winning margin was only 10.9s. Reigning champions Sébastien Ogier & Julien Ingrassia (C3 WRC) had been the ones pushing Tänak through the early parts of the rally but they slipped back to third and finished a further 12.9s back. Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia’s strict determination helped them to secure their third podium of the season in Corsica and Citroën Total World Rally Team’s fourth podium finish in as many races this year. Their hard-earned second place takes them to within two points of the top of the drivers’ World Championship. Meanwhile, Esapekka Lappi and Janne Ferm finished seventh overall, helping to consolidate Citroën’s second place in the manufacturers’ standings and racking up important miles in the C3 WRC at an all-asphalt event.

The C3 WRC has now finished on the podium at every round since the start of the season in Monte-Carlo. The 2019 season hosts its first gravel event this weekend at Rally Mexico, where the Citroën Total World Rally Team crews Sébastien Ogier / Julien Ingrassia and Esapekka Lappi / Janne Ferm will tackle the invariably hot, high altitude roads around León. Following a successful start to the season, the team’s crews will be determined to score their third consecutive podium.
