Frank Bird and HRT continue racing in the GT World Challenge Europe

The Haupt Racing Team will be once again on the grid in the upcoming season of the FanatecHRT GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS as Hubert Haupt’s team will field a pair of Mercedes-AMG GT3s in the races throughout the season, one of which will be driven by Cumbrian driver Frank Bird.

The Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS comes to an end this weekend with the fifth and final round of the Endurance Cup at Barcelona where Cumbrian driver Frank Bird will be in action.

22-year-old Frank, from Penrith, will again be at the wheel of the Team WRT Audi R8 LMS in which he’ll partner Japanese ace Ryuichiro Tomita and Danish driver Valdemar Eriksen.

Bird claims runner up spot in GT World Cup

Penrith driver Frank Bird endured a frustrating weekend at the fifth and final round of the Fanatec GT World Cup Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup in Valencia, but still managed to end the season as runner-up in the series.

The 21-year-old Cumbrian and Japanese teammate Ryuichiro Tomita struggled during qualifying in the Team WRT Audi R8 LMS on the technical Spanish track to end up 24th on the grid.

Next stop Spain for Frank Bird and Team WRT

The Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS concludes its 2021 season with a double header in Spain with Cumbrian driver Frank Bird in with a distinct chance of landing one of the titles.

First stop is at Valencia, a completely new track for the series, where the final round of the Sprint Cup will take place this weekend, two weeks prior to the Endurance Cup finale in Barcelona.

It was another weekend of celebrations for Team WRT as Dries Vanthoor and Charles Weerts netted the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS overall Drivers’ title at the Nürburgring, with two rounds still to go and one week after taking the Sprint Cup crown.

After a month’s break, Penrith racing driver Frank Bird returns to action this weekend when he contests the legendary Total Energies 24 Hours of Spa for Team WRT at their home round.

One of the most famous races in the world, the race in the Belgian Ardennes district forms the third round of the Endurance class in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe and will see 21-year-old Frank compete alongside two teammates in the Audi R8 LMS.

Victory for Bird at Misano

The special relationship between Team WRT and the track of Misano was yet again confirmed in the third round of the Fanatec GT World Cup Europe Sprint Cup when Cumbrian driver Frank Bird was part of the victorious winning team.

The 21-year-old from Penrith partnered Japanese driver Ryuichiro Tomita to the win in the second of this weekend’s Silver Cup races in the Audi R8 LMS to record their first victory of the season after a string of podiums.

Misano beckons for Bird

This weekend sees the traditional mid-summer visit of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS at Misano whereby the popular Adriatic resort in Italy hosts the third round of the Sprint Cup.

Unlike previous years, there is no night race meaning Team WRT have entered its three Audi R8 LMS with their regular line-ups, including Cumbrian driver Frank Bird.
