After missing out 2010 we were back up in Kielder for the 2011 Pirelli Rally where David Bogie & Kevin Rae (Evo IX) made it 2 wins out of 3 in the BRC. Bulldog winners Elfyn Evans & Andrew Edwards were in close attendance until the end of stage 5 but then they had a character building drive to get to the finish. In the end it was the Fabia S2000’s which completed the podium with Robert Barrable & Damien Connolly a fine second, just over a minute back, with Jonny Greer & Dai Roberts a minute and a half further back in 3rd. In the 2WD section a late check in cost the Clio R3 pairing of Mark Donnelly & Barry McNulty dear. They would have won the category comfortably but instead were fourth. Martin McCormack & David Moynihan (DS3 R3) took the win by almost 20 seconds from the Finnish pairing of Jukka Korhonen & Marko Salminen (Fiesta R2). Sardinia, an island steeped in history, is where the MINI WRC Team will make its historic debut in the FIA World Rally Championship next week. With its two MINI John Cooper Works WRCs driven by Kris Meeke (GB) and Dani Sordo (ES) the team will start the Rally Italy, Sardinia on Friday (6th May) and begin a new era for this iconic brand.

The MINI Countryman was the car chosen for this exciting project and its development has been in the hands of Prodrive, the Banbury, UK based company that has a wealth of experience in the world of rallying, in close cooperation with MINI. The new programme for the brand was announced last July and since then the team has covered thousands of kilometres of testing. Meeke from Northern Ireland will be co-driven by Paul Nagle from Southern Ireland in car number 52, while sitting beside Sordo will be fellow Spaniard, Carlos del Barrio, in car number 37. Contenders in the Dunlop/WONAGO MSA British Historic Rally Championship head north on Saturday (30 April) for round three, the Pirelli Historic Rally, where the tremendous challenge of Kielder forests awaits the crews.

While the Kielder stages are very different to the Welsh forests, home to the opening two rallies of the season, the level of competition across all three categories will be no less intense.

Simon Wallis and Graham Wride will lead category one away in their Lotus Cortina, while David Stokes and Guy Weaver are bidding for a hat-trick of wins in category two in their Ford Escort Mk1. The JRM Rally Team and driver Tom Cave are eager to get back to their more familiar position at the front of the field on this weekend’s Pirelli Rally, following a non-finish in round two of the Dulux Trade MSA British Rally Championship, the Bulldog Rally of North Wales, which took place earlier this month. Milford Haven’s Nick Cristofaro will head to Carlisle next weekend as he continues his British Rally Championship (BRC) season on the Pirelli International rally.

Cristofaro presently lies fifth in the BRC Formula 2 championship standings as well as second in the Fiesta Sporting Trophy after good results on the events so far in his TEG Sport-run Ford Fiesta ST which is supported by Pirelli, Genpower UK, Autoglym, Millers Oils, Nicky Grist and Cut In Edge. The Pirelli rally will also see the start of a new partnership, with Elite Remapping providing support to Cristofaro’s new Cristotec Remapping business. Read More »

KC Rally Team driver Becky Kirvan will resume her BRC Challenge championship campaign next weekend when she contests the Pirelli Challenge rally.

Becky, from Burton Pidsea, took third in class on the opening championship round in early April and after a day testing her KC, Princes Quay Shopping Centre, Bardahl Oils, Rally4Real, Songasport and Peart Auto Services-backed Ford Fiesta she is hoping for another good finish on the Carlisle-based event.
