AaronMcClure_PR_8_14Flookburgh rally ace Aaron McClure returned to the BTRDA Rally Series last weekend as he tackled the Eventsigns Woodpecker Stages Rally in a one-off appearance with the Ford Focus. In an effort to ensure he maintains “rally ready” McClure headed to the Shropshire event to be re-united with his 2012 Wales Rally GB class winning car and challenge for the BTRDA 1400 category spoils. But the Cumbrian would complete less than half of the rally distance as a failed suspension component forced him into an early retirement. Read More »

SamBilham_PR14_9Junior rally star Sam Bilham took a convincing RallyFirst 1.0 litre class win last weekend at the Eventsigns Woodpecker Stages Rally and in doing so also secured the BTRDA RF1.0 title in his first year of gravel rallying. Driving his usual Nissan Micra with co-driver Graham Wild alongside him, Bilham netted a runaway victory in the Ludlow based event which offered 44 slippery miles in the damp forest roads of Shropshire and Powys. Mini Poland14Nothing is sweeter than a victory in front of your own fans is something that Krzysztof Holowczyc from Poland will certainly confirm after winning his home event, the 2014 Baja Poland of the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies, in the MINI ALL4 Racing entered by the X-raid Team. Alongside his new co-driver Xavier Panseri (FR), “Holek” as Holowczyc is called by his fans convincingly won two out of four stages and sealed his win early after the fifth stage of the event had to be cancelled due to unsafe road conditions after heavy rainfalls. Perez_Woodpecker2Chesterfield driver Steve Perez and Welsh co-driver Paul Spooner took a well-earned runner-up placing on this weekend’s Woodpecker Stages Rally to continue their quest for the 2014 REIS BTRDA Rally Series title.

Following back-to-back victories in his new car, David Bogie says confidence is high going into next Saturday’s GWF Energy Merrick Stages Rally.

At the same time, the Dumfries driver is fully aware that on the classic fast stages of the Galloway Forest, the Ford Fiesta R5+ could lose out to the more powerful Ford Focus WRC of main rival Euan Thorburn.

The Borderer – who won last year’s Merrick alongside co-driver Paul Beaton – currently leads the ARR Craib MSA Scottish Rally Championship after five events. Read More »

woodpecker14 (6)Every now and again the Woodpecker is not blighted by dust and 2014 was one of those occasions as a damp evening ensured the dust would not be an issue. The rally would see a tustle between Steve Perez & Paul Spooner (Focus WRC) against Paul Bird & Aled Davies (Focus WRC). Early on Perez had issues with his Focus and safe in the knowledge he already had 2 victories this season he played it safe to take 2nd behind Bird rather than push and lose any championship points. With 2 rounds to go it is all still to play for between the rivals and friends. Luke Francis & John Roberts (Evo IX) were almost a minute off the pace of Bird to complete the podium in what was another great display in a former group N car. Read More »
