A modest entry of 21 crews started the 2019 season opener the Geoff Taylor Sporting Trial, on the Apley Estate. With fog shrouding the 8 hills the first two runs provided low scoring as the damp conditions did not challenge the crews as much as was expected. With the hills made more challenging in the sunny afternoon conditions Simon Kingsley got his season off to a great start with a score of 14 points and victory in the process. Ian Veale was just 2 points back in 2nd place with Andy Wilks just a point further back, completing the podium. Read More »

Fourty three crews arrived at an unseasonably dry Frocester site to contest the 2018 Gold and Silver Star final. Ten long sections were laid out across the deceptively dry site and with the threat of rain looking slim it looked like a low scoring day was in store. Roland Uglow and John Fack running two cars apart set the early pace in round one of the 2018 Gold Star, with Roland’s two marks dropped closely followed by John’s three. Richard Sharp matched John’s score to sit in a tie for second with Bryan Walker a point further back on four with Ian Veale completing the top five on five. Read More »

Ian Wright ended his championship winning season in a fitting manner by winning the Gloster Sporting Trial. Without a victory since September, Ian found the conditions to his liking as he powered his way to victory. Wet conditions underfoot met the 32 starters, and as the day wore on and intermittent rain showers broke up the dull conditions, the early grass disappeared and engine revs began to rise on an enjoyable day’s sport at this super site. Josh Veale and Roland Uglow led the way early on with Josh holding a slender point lead at lunchtime on 17 with Roland on 18 and Ian Wright two points further back on 20. Read More »

A glorious day in Southern Warwickshire saw the last event of the season before the summer break. Ian Wright took the win on the final pass of the hills, from close friend and rival Ian Veale. It had looked like a Veale win as he lead from the start, but a three on one of the final hills to Wright’s zero proved to be key as Wright finished on 11 points with Veale’s 13 points. Julian Fack was the best of the rest back on 24 points, completing the podium. Read More »

We took in another new venue for the Pennine Sporting Trial, near Warslow. The trialing season is approaching its summer break so there are only a handful of events left to gain valuable points, looking ahead to the championsip finals due in early January 2019. With the crews making 4 passes at each of the 8 hills it was Ian Wright & Alex Hill who took the lead only scoring 8 points. Roland Uglow & Laura Wilks managed the same score on the 2nd pass to take the overall lead going in to the lunchbreak. Read More »

It was another close one down in Frocester as Roland Uglow took win number 3 in a row, this season. He had started round 3 trailing Ian Veale by a single point, with John Fack just a point further back, but thanks to five 0’s across the 8 hills he set a superb score of just 3 points to take victory from Veale by 8 points. Uglow really is in fine form and the BTRDA Gold Star Championship final in Penrith, next January, should be a really cracker. Paul Price matched Veale’s score of 12 on round 3 to secure 3rd overall by just two points from Richard Sharp who notched up a score of 9 points on the final round. Fack dropped back to sixth overall as he failed to make a low score on final round of hills. Read More »

btrdasporting17-137Josh Veale won the Reis Motorsport Insurance BTRDA Sporting trials Gold Star for the second time in three years at his home site in Crewkerne Somerset, while Nick Speed won the Silver Star for second tier of drivers similar repeating his success of two years ago, like Veale. In the Gold Star Simon Gracey with young son passengering was the nearest challenger but a poor second round damaged his hopes of a maiden Gold Star finishing fourteen points behind in the end. Reigning double British champion Roland Uglow had a terrible first round that saw him down in fifteenth place, but then was best for the rest of the day to climb upto third overall with Laura Wilks passengering. gloster16-1John Fack became the ninth different winner of the year at the round of the Sporting trial season at the Gloster. Fack hadn’t won for two years since winning the British championship and ended the year with an overall win, which his identical twin Jerome started with. A heavy overnight frost made for extremely treacherous conditions and a high scoring day with Fack and Roland Uglow leading the way finishing just seven marks apart. Reigning BTRDA Gold Star champion Ian Veale completed the podium a further eleven behind. Read More »
