Tom_Cave_MWSJust two weeks ago, the event regulations were released for the first round of the 2016 MSA British Rally Championship and organisers of the Mid Wales Stages have reported receiving a record numbers of entries.  The re-vamped 5th/6th March event has already amassed 60 entrants across the three events which make up this year’s rally, significantly up on levels seen at this point in the Newtown & District Automobile Club organized event in previous years. brandshatch16 (7)With no event in 2015 we made our first visit in a while to Brands Hatch and a wet start caused chaos early on, where front wheel drive ultimately proved to be the best method of drive. Chris West & Steve McNulty (306 Maxi) were joint fastest on the first stage and 4th fastest on the 2nd stage saw them sharing the lead after the first pair of stages. Steve Quigley & Tom Hutchings (Clio 172 Cup) were tied with them for the lead with Tony Robinson & Phil Clarke (Clio) just a further 2nd back after fastest time on stage 2. Through the next pair of stages the conditions improved and became more predictable, which saw the Clio’s fall back as the RWD and 4WD machinery started to make up ground. Read More »

John-Stone-Jack-frost-TT-1Blackburn rally driver John Stone heads to Blackpool next weekend (5/6th February) looking for some overdue success on the Legend Fires North West Stages Rally which gets underway on the Friday evening (5th February).

The event sponsor will be behind the wheel of his recently acquired Ford Fiesta 2.5S which he’ll share with Welsh co driver Carl Williamson following a successful shakedown on last weekend’s Jack Frost Stages Rally at Croft. Read More »

McLaren Bas LeindersAhead of the 2016 season, McLaren GT has added to its off-track team with the appointment of Bas Leinders to the role of Sporting Manager. Confirmation of a number of new McLaren GT customer teams for the 2016 season has further strengthened the GT3 grids around the world. Leinders brings valuable experience to the teams on the pitwall and he will work with customer teams to further optimise the potential of the 650S GT3.

Leinders, 40, has enjoyed a successful GT and single-seat racing career, which included winning the German Formula 3 in 1998 before joining the McLaren junior team alongside former Formula 1™ driver Nick Heidfeld, and a role as Formula 1™ test and reserve driver. Read More »

McLaren Sepang16The McLaren 650S GT3 claimed the first silverware of the 2016 season as GT customer team Clearwater Racing took the final podium position in a dramatic three hour race in Sepang. The result was enough to maintain the hard-earned lead in both the team and driver championships, and secure the second title for the 650S GT3. Factory Driver Rob Bell, alongside teammates Mok Weng Sun and Keita Sawa, ended the season with three pole positions and two wins. Read More »
