This year’s Carlisle Stages will feature 55 competitive miles with an opening leg in the darkness of Friday evening (October 20) and a full day with a further 45 stage miles on Saturday, October 21.

The event, run by Nicola Heppenstall and the team at the Roger Albert Clark Rally Motor Club, will be the final round of both the Fuchs Lubricants British Historic Rally Championship and the KNC Groundworks Scottish Rally Championship. The Fuchs Lubricants RACRMC Historic Rally Championship has launched details of the 2023 season, offering a top-drawer seven-round calendar for the year ahead.

After making the switch to an all-gravel series in 2022, following feedback from competitors the championship will introduce an asphalt round to the series, adding to six high quality forest events which encompass some of the best gravel stages in the country. Read More »

Constant drizzle and rain blanketed Kielder forest for the final round of the British Historic and Scottish Rally Championships. In the BHRC it two way battle with Matt Edwards & Hamish Campbell (131 Abarth) needing to win and for Henri Grehan & Dan Petrie (Escort MkII) to finish lower than 4th. Edwards was fastest through the opening 3 stages but Grehan was 2nd overall. It all fell apart for Edwards on SS4 though as he retired and Grehan went on to take the BHRC victory and the 2022 title, in 6th overall. Tom Walster & Glyn Thomas (Escort MkII) were the 2nd 2WD crew home with Adrian Hetherington & Ronan O’Neill (Escort MkII) completing the 2WD podium. Read More »

Ben Friend and co-driver Cliffy Simmons became 2021 Fuchs Lubricants British Historic Rally Champions at the weekend with a stellar performance at the final round of the season, the Carlisle Stages Rally [23 October].

The duo performed faultlessly in their Ford Escort MK2 to tame the notorious stages in and around the Kielder Forest complex, to grab the lead from 2019 BHRC champions Simon Webster and Jez Rogers on the third test. Garry Pearson & Niall Burns (Fabia R5) kept their great 2021 going by wrapping up the Scottish Rally Championship with a comfortable victory on the Carlisle Stages. The final winning margin was over a minute from Stephen Petch & Michael Wilkinson (Fiesta WRC) with Scott Beattie & Paula Swinscoe (Evo VIII) cokmpleting the podium. Meanwhile there was the Historic Rally Championship up for grabs too and it was Ben Friend & Cliff Simmons (Escort MkII) who took the title with 2nd in the Historics, in 12th overall.
