It was great to see the Wyedean running again and it was Matthew Hirst & Declan Dear (Evo IX) who took victory on the slick stages. Heavy rain in the lead up and on the day meant treacherous conditions for the 85 starters with a 10 crews going out on the opening stage. Nick Elliott & Dave Price (Escort MkII) were fastest by a second from Hirst, but Hirst hit back on stage 2 to take the lead by 1s. Brackley rally driver Callum Black stormed to his first ever overall rally victory at last weekend’s Winner Garage Skoda Wyedean Stages Rally (11th November) and in the process, became the 2017 Pirelli MSA Welsh Rally Champion.

After taking three maximum points scores in the last three rounds, Black would head to the event with one eye on the title after securing a finish on the biggest rally in the UK just a few weeks previously, the FIA World Rally Championship qualifier, Dayinsure Wales Rally. Brackley rally driver Callum Black has placed a last minute entry to next weekend’s Winner Garage Skoda Wyedean Stages Rally, in a bid to secure the 2017 MSA Welsh Rally Championship at the final round.

Fresh from his debut in the FIA World Rally Championship at the Dayinsure Wales Rally GB last weekend where he secured a top 30 position, Black and co-driver Elliott Edmondson will head to the Forest of Dean in their 586 Group Ford Fiesta R5 to try and clinch the title as the series draws to a close. wyedean16-13Back to the old time of the year for the Wyedean and a fantastic entry did battle on the damp stages of the Forest of Dean. Callum Black & Elliott Edmondson (Fiesta R5) were fastest through Serridge by 8 seconds but saw their lead halved on stage 2 as Josh Moffett & Jack Walby (Fiesta R5) got to grips with the conditions. They then blitzed Mailscot to lead by 13 seconds. There was no going back as Moffett went fastest on the repeat runs of all 3 stages to take victory by 46 seconds, with Black comfortable in 2nd place. Read More »

The very best clubman in the UK will compete on a 9 round calendar including two overseas trips to the Isle of Man and Killarney Stages for the double and one and a half point scoring rounds, respectively.

Bird Wyedean15aCumbrian rally driver Paul Bird got his 2015 BTRDA Rally Championship campaign underway in the best possible fashion by taking a comprehensive victory in the Forest of Dean on today’s Weir Engineering Wyedean Forest Rally.

Fresh from last weekend’s victory on the Legend Fires North West Stages Rally, the 2005 ANCRO National Champion was back in action in the woods for the first time in three months and competing for only the third time on the Chepstow based event whereby the previous two visits heralded runner-up spot on both occasions. wyedean15 (2)The 40th Wyedean started in murky conditions on the Blaize Bailey stage for the 1400 crews but by the time the main field arrived conditions had improved. Charlie Payne & Carl Williamson (Fiesta) set the early pace on the short opener before Paul Bird & Aled Davies (Focus WRC) got into their stride of the remaining 3 morning stages with a series of fastest times. Going in to service Bird held a 21 second lead over David Weston & Kirsty Riddick (Impreza WRC) with Payne 3rd. Bird and Weston then swapped times over the next two stages before Weston lost time compared to Bird through the Serridge stage. Hugh Hunter & Andy Marchbank (Impreza WRC) were fastest as they climbed to 3rd overall. The final stage saw Bird seal victory with Weston over half a minute back in 2nd and Hunter a solid 3rd on his return to the gravel stages. Read More »

George_Lepley_PR1_15_HeadShotSeventeen year old Nottinghamshire rally star George Lepley will begin his assault on the BTRDA Rally Championship next weekend as he contests the first round of the series, The Weir Engineering Wyedean Forest Rally.  After graduating from the Formula 1000 Junior Rallying championship, Lepley will make the step up to the popular 10 round series which kicks off in Chepstow, Wales on Saturday 14th February. George_Morrison_PR1Returning to the sport after a two year sabbatical, HM Forces Mechanic George Morrison will contest next weekend’s Weir Engineering Wyedean Forest Rally.  Driving his newly acquired MG ZR, Morrison will tackle the popular BTRDA Rally Championship and the ten round season kicks off with the Forest of Dean based event.  A previous winner of the RC2 class in the BRC Challenge series during 2010, Morrison will turn his attentions to the ultra-competitive MGZR Challenge which is incorporated in the all-gravel BTRDA Rally Championship.
